Black people across the globe
What Love Is
A search for what love asks of us—in public, in private, and across every place Black people call home.
A four-song series by Mr. Hood
Four songs about Black love, accountability, survival, and the grace to keep speaking life over one another.

01 / THE PROJECT
Still, Àṣẹ stands apart from The Quiet Part Out Loud. This is a focused four-song body of work rooted in Black life—from Chicago’s West Side to the wider diaspora. Each record speaks to a different circle, but together they move through love, accountability, blessing, recognition, and the decision to keep growing.
02 / THE FOUR SONGS
Black people across the globe
A search for what love asks of us—in public, in private, and across every place Black people call home.
Chicago • Out West
Flowers for the living, truth for the city, and an honest look at both the systems that wound us and the ways we sometimes wound each other.
Only singleAll Black people
Even while we are doing this to one another, the blessing remains: Aboru Aboye Abosise. May what is spoken with purpose become so.
The wanderers and the still-thriving
For Black people who are queer, straight, asexual, spiritually awake, searching, surviving, and still finding a way forward.

The only single
Chicago deserves its flowers while it is still breathing.
Built for Out West, “Roses” is an explicit hip-hop soul freestyle that loves Chicago enough to tell it the truth. Mr. Hood looks back at the place that shaped him, honors the people who keep the city alive, and refuses to separate outside pressure from the harm we sometimes cause inside our own community.
“Put the roses in our hands while we livin’.”
Still here.
Still growing.
Still, Àṣẹ.
